In Pune, 59 people have been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological disorder where the body’s immune system attacks its own nerves. Around 12 of the affected individuals are currently on ventilators. GBS leads to weakness, numbness, and in some cases, paralysis, with symptoms starting in the feet and spreading upwards to the legs, arms, and face. The exact causes remain unknown, but many patients report having had an infection several weeks prior to the onset of GBS symptoms.
