US biotech company Colossal Biosciences has unveiled a genetically engineered woolly mouse, in a step toward its ambitious goal of bringing the woolly mammoth back to life.
By introducing mammoth genes into mice, its scientists aim to refine genetic engineering techniques that could one day bring back extinct species.
Chief executive Ben Lamm said these advancements were also about accelerating conservation efforts in the face of biodiversity loss.
