This news reporter was asked to have a breast scan done live on television. Since it was Breast Cancer Awareness Month, her producer figured it would be a cool way to highlight the importance of a screening called a mammogram.
Even though this exam plays a major role in detecting breast cancer early, many women don’t get around to it, and Amy Robach was one of them. She had always been nervous about it and assumed it wasn’t necessary for her just yet. That’s why she instantly rejected it when they asked her to do it live.
But Amy was encouraged by her coworker, Robin Roberts, who told her that going through with it could inspire other people to get checked too, and maybe even save lives. Knowing that Robin had battled breast cancer herself, Amy realized she had a point, and that this might actually end up making a real difference.
Turns out, Robin may have saved her life. After going through with the live mammogram, Amy found out she had breast cancer, and because they caught it early, she was able to get treatment quickly and eventually made a full recovery.
