Analysis of this year’s 78-day Dewan Rakyat sitting shows a stark contrast in MPs’ attendance, with some attending every session while others missed most sittings.
Former Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein topped the absentee list with 69 missed sittings, followed by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang with 65, and Parti Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal with 60.
Despite these absences, 46 MPs recorded perfect attendance, most from the opposition, with Perikatan Nasional leading the pack with 26 MPs attending every session.
Notable consistent attendees included Syed Saddiq, Teresa Kok, Young Syefura Othman, and Kuala Lumpur-based ministers Johari Abdul Ghani and Hannah Yeoh.
Major parties like Pakatan Harapan, PAS, and Bersatu saw many MPs attending at least 75% of sittings.
Some high-profile figures were in the mid-range of attendance, including former prime ministers Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Meanwhile, a few absences were not voluntary, with MPs such as Datuk Awang Hashim and Datuk Dr Ahmad Marzuk Shaary serving suspensions during the year.
