The world mourns the passing of Pope Francis, the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church, who died at the age of 88.
The Vatican confirmed his death in a video statement. Cardinal Kevin Farrell announced that at 7.35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome had ‘returned to the house of the Father.’
Jorge Mario Bergoglio, known for his deep concern for the poor, defied expectations and sought to reform a deeply traditional Church.
His leadership was often turbulent—facing criticism from both conservatives and progressives. Yet, his dedication to interfaith dialogue and advocating for the marginalised made him a global icon.
