Luigi Mangione is expected to plead not guilty to murder charges in New York, his defense attorney, Tom Dickey, said.
“I’m telling you as his lawyer, he didn’t have any … representation until I got involved this afternoon,” Dickey — who is based in Altoona, Pa., where Mangione was arrested Monday — said Tuesday.
“And I’m telling you he’s pleading not guilty,” the lawyer said.
The alleged assassin has already pleaded not guilty to forgery and weapons charges in Pennsylvania.
Mangione was charged Monday night in New York with second-degree murder for killing UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson, but is contesting his extradition.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office has 30 days to submit a warrant to Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro seeking to bring back Mangione back to the Empire State.
Hochul’s office confirmed Tuesday it was working on the request.
