Backing India’s take on the recent Indus Waters Treaty issue, Union Minister of State (Ind Charge) for Science and Tech Dr Jitendra Singh on January 28 in Kathua blamed Pakistan of putting out a false case of treaty violation. Explaining India’s take over the matter, the Union Minister said that the Kishanganga and Ratle projects do not violate the treaty as the dams would not consume the water and also termed it ‘non-consumptive’.
In a swift backlash, the Union Minister also recalled the regime of previous governments when the projects were stalled for the longest time. Singh further extoled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s quick decisiveness pertaining India’s ‘notice of modification’ over the treaty to Pakistan.
“Pakistan is trying to put out the case as if it is the violation of the Indus Waters Treaty. That is not the case because the treaty gives you the rights to the water share but it does not prevent the other country from doing an activity which is non-consumptive. As it would not consume water,” the Union Minister said.
