As actor Candice Bergen presented the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series at the Emmys on September 15, she couldn’t help but quip about when she played Murphy Brown in the sitcom named after her character during the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. Bergen’s character had a child out of wedlock during the series, and then-Vice President Dan Quayle admonished her and the show for the plotline.
‘Oh, how far we’ve come. Today a Republican candidate for vice president would *never* attack a woman for having kids, so, as they say, ‘My work here is done.’’
